Faraway Bay - Diamond Coast - Kimberley WA
Faraway Bay is a very special place, but it took some finding. A long time resident of Kununurra, Bruce Ellison, had spent years exploring the West Australian Kimberley coast by boat and helicopter, looking for the perfect location to create a unique experience that would introduce visitors to its splendour. It had to be an outstanding combination — an abundant source of fresh water, easy access by air and stunning views were all part of the equation, and finally he found what he was searching for -- a broad well sheltered bay on an isolated strip of coast just to the west of the King George River. So remote was the location that it didn't even have a name, but to Bruce the name seemed obvious enough -- Faraway Bay.
Faraway Bay is one of Australian fishing's best-kept secrets; the fishing is so diverse that you could actually struggle to believe you were in the east Kimberley. Mangrove creek systems are complimented by blue water and are accessed by Faraway Bays 13m boat with 5m and 6m dinghies to assist.
This area is so untouched that none of the area is actually surveyed and so the local guides have their own names for the islands and creeks that make up the region. This is fishing in truly virgin waters, where you and your guide are the explorers.
On one recent outing a client caught and released all of these species in a day; barramundi, mangrove jack, queensfish, spanish mackerel, giant trevally, golden trevally, blue salmon, blue bone, black bream, estuary cod and fingermark bream.
Ultimate Fishing offers the angler the opportunity to fish these virgin waters with the best local guides. Fishing these waters could turn just about anything up, that's the beauty of Faraway Bay.

Staying at Faraway Bay is an experience in itself. Spectacularly isolated, the bush-style cabins have a 180-degree view of the ocean and Eagle Lodge, the main building, is comprised of a relaxing lounge and dining area that overlooks the cliff-side freshwater plunge pool and the magnificent Faraway Bay.
As the brochure so accurately describes "So far away from anywhere, we called it Faraway Bay. It feels like the edge of forever. Where a few days can feel like a week, and a week can change the way you feel forever." It is little wonder Faraway Bay has been so highly awarded with prestigious honours such as the Gourmet Traveller Jaguar award for excellence in travel and recently the winner of the 2003-2004 Australian Tourism Award for best Unique Accommodation.
